Opening Reception for Now/Here

"Now/Here" is a group exhibition featuring Kansas City-based artists who explore narratives through the lenses of experience, memory, place, history, and race. "Now/Here" features a selection of works that include photography, painting, sculpture, prints, and installation, while the exhibition presents a range of visual languages and approaches to materiality that consider questions of representation and identity.

Featured artists: Patricia Bordallo-Dibildox, Ruben Castillo, Jorge García Almodóvar, Rashawn Griffin, Kwanza Humphrey, Kathy Liao, Whitney Manney, Desiree Morales, Andrew Ordonez, Carlos Ortiz-Gallo, Rebeka Pech Moguel, Anthony Marcos Rea, William Plummer, Angelica Sandoval, Kiki Serna, Hyeyoung Shin, Chico Sierra, Heinrich Toh and William Toney.

"Now/Here" is organized by Guest Curator Silvia Beatriz Abisaab (’16 Photography) with the support of community advisors José Faus, artist, writer, teacher, and founding member of the Latino Writers Collective; Stephanie Fox Knappe, Samuel Sosland Curator, American Art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; Kreshaun McKinney, manager of audience engagement, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; Jade Powers, assistant curator, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; and Raechell Smith, director, H&R Block Artspace at KCAI.

The opening reception is sponsored by Crane Brewing Company, a local production brewery founded and owned by KCAI alumnus Michael Crane (’79 Photography) specializing in farmhouse, sour and wild fermented beers with distribution throughout the Midwestern United States.

Street parking is available and you are welcome to park in the lot north of the KCAI Fiber Warehouse Building at 4218 Walnut St. for Artspace events.
